Mundingburra candidates revealed after Coralee O’Rourke announces departure
It is understood there was overwhelming support for Mr Walker on the ground.
It comes after government minister Coralee O’Rourke, who has held the Townsville seat since 2015, announced she was quitting politics earlier this month.
Her announcement came after The Courier-Mail revealed she was reconsidering contesting her seat.
Ms O’Rourke has since revealed she wants to focus on her health.
Mr Walker will go up against a raft of candidates including the LNP’s Glenn Doyle, One Nation candidate Ian Bowron, Katter’s Australian Party’s Alannah Tomlinson and Jenny Brown from the Greens.
Labor held Mundingburra by a paper-thin margin of 1.1 per cent at the 2017 election.
