Wish realised with playground unveiling

A 10-year-old's wishes have been answered after an unveiling at Kilpa St park on Thursday.

Late last year Isobella Kerrigan penned a letter to Southern Downs Regional Council, in which she requested the installation of a new roundabout at the 'monkey park'.

A few months later and the $19,000 project has come to fruition. "I just really wanted the roundabout because I thought it'd be fun and there's not much equipment in this playground for all ages,” Isobella said.

"I thought this would be good for all ages and lots of people could play on it and it has seats so you can sit down so you're not always running around.

"I wrote last year in September to council. Really happy to see it built and I can't wait for more people to find that it's here and have a go on it,” she said.

Mayor Tracy Dobie helped unveil the new equipment.

"This comes under one of the community projects that council have undertaken in this financial year.

"We have another young lady who has written to council asking for a learn-to-ride bike park (in Warwick) so we've put in for funding for that through the Works for Queensland program.

"The children from Dalveen school wrote to council asking to fix the fountain in the park as well.

"It's great that young people recognise that these are the services council provide and it's great they are contacting council to make requests.

"Part of what we're doing with our Youth Council is to show young people they can contribute to the future of their region,” Cr Dobie said.
