A fourth generation farmer from Pozieres, who became a reality TV star, has announced some ‘incredible’ news months after the finale aired.

A fourth generation apple farmer from the Granite Belt, who quickly became one of the region’s most famous faces after appearing on a popular TV program, has taken to social media to announce some massive news.

David McMahon, from Pozieres, appeared on the hit Channel Seven show Farmer Wants a Wife earlier this year, and said his farm was ‘paradise’ but something was missing.

The 29-year-old farmer met teacher’s aide Emily on the 13th iteration of the show, and quickly became one of the show’s favourite couples.

On Monday, the pair captioned a joint Instagram post with: “Incredibly proud to announce, this Farmer has found his Wife”.

Mr McMahon chose the location the pair had their first 24-hour date to pop the big question, at Evamor Valley in the Blue Mountains.

The McMahon Bros Orchards is known for producing apples and other fruits such as pears, strawberries, blackberries, lettuce, celery, broccoli and tomatoes, and has been operating for almost a century at Pozieres.

Mr McMahon said he chose the spot because it was where he first “fell in love” with the contestant, and said he “just knew this was something special”.

“So, it was really important for me that when I asked Em to marry me, it had to be at Evamor Valley – the spot is just such a special part of our journey,” he said.

Following the show ending filming in December 2022, Emily made the move from Brisbane to the Granite Belt, and is currently working full time at a local primary school in the Granite Belt.

Farmer Wants a Wife will return in 2024, with two new Queensland farmers joining the cast, including one from the Wide Bay–Burnett region.
