The Border Rivers Rugby League has been revived after four years with no competition in the Granite Belt area.
The new league will see four clubs – Stanthorpe Gremlins, Tenterfield Tigers, Warwick Cowboys and Inglewood Roosters – line up.
Border Rivers Rugby League president Lyndsay Adams is excited about the start of the new competition.

“Footy has been in Stanthorpe for over 100 years and this competition helps bring footy back to town,” Adams said.
From 2017 to 2019 the Gremlins played in the Touch Rugby League competition in Toowoomba but did not play last year due to COVID.
Adams said that while playing in the TRL gave the players an opportunity to play rugby, the travel time to games was difficult.
“This new competition gives players living in the local area the chance to play competitive rugby,” Adams said.
“Some players haven’t played rugby competitively since early last year so this will be a great way for them to get back into it.”
The Gremlins training facility has recently been updated and Adams said it was another driving force behind getting the competition revived.
“It’s an awesome facility and a lot of money and effort went into it, so it’s good that we are able to make use of it,” he said.
The Stanthorpe Gremlins senior men’s team have a 30-man squad, with players ranging from 19 to 33 years old.
The team, led by coach Brent Irwin, trained last night at Sullivan Oval in preparation for the round robin competition which begins on Saturday, May 1.
Adams said the Border Rivers committee would meet on Monday, April 26 to confirm specific details of the competition and its format but expects the season to start on May 8.
