Crime wrap: Serial burglar targets Granite Belt as ‘drug producers’, ‘drug drivers’ charged
Stanthorpe police are on the hunt for the person behind a spree of break-ins across the Granite Belt. The string of crimes was only one attracting officers’ attention this month.

Officers are on the hunt for the burglar behind a string of break-ins on the Granite Belt over the past month, with several items stolen from each home.
Stanthorpe Police officer-in-charge Gerard Brady said the serial burglar targeted unoccupied or holiday homes across the Glenlyon area.
Senior Sergeant Brady added police believed the suspect was “well-versed with the area”, with officers to continue their investigations.
All residents are advised to lock their homes and sheds, and anyone with relevant information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
The hunt for the burglar comes as another string of residents were charged with a range of drug and driving offences.
Two women were charged after their Lane Street home was raided Saturday morning, with police allegedly uncovering 100g marijuana, two marijuana plants, and drug utensils including a meth pipe and bongs.
A 34-year-old was charged with producing drugs, possessing drugs, and possessing drug utensils, and a 27-year-old will face one charge of possessing drug utensils.
Both women are due to appear in Stanthorpe Magistrates Court in the near future.
Later that day a 28-year-old allegedly returned a positive drug test after being intercepted on Goodwin Road at Thulimbah.
The Pozieres woman will front Stanthorpe Magistrates Court at a later date.
The first two weeks of July have been busy ones on the road for Stanthorpe police, with a number of residents charged with a range of driving offences.
Another Stanthorpe man was allegedly caught by police drink driving on Saturday at 1am on Davadi Street.
The 36-year-old allegedly returned a blood alcohol concentration of 0.079 and will front Stanthorpe Magistrates Court on August 18.
A 72-year-old man will front court on evading police and speeding charges after he was allegedly caught doing 126km/h in a 100km/h zone on the New England Highway.
The New South Wales man will also appear in the Stanthorpe court on August 18.
Police claim it was only a few days earlier that a Severnlea woman was more than two times the legal alcohol limit while driving on Matthew Street on July 6.
The 49-year-old lost her licence on the spot after allegedly returning a blood alcohol concentration of 0.113.
She will appear in the Warwick Magistrates Court at a later date.
A 35-year-old man was the final alleged drink driver nabbed on Granite Belt roads this month.
Police claim the Brisbane man had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.054 while driving on the New England Highway on July 7.
He will appear in the Stanthorpe Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
An 19-year-old Ipswich man was also given a drug diversion after he was nabbed allegedly carrying a drug pipe in his car on July 3.
