Australian rock legend Paul Kelly has announced he will be touching down in Stanthorpe next week for an exclusive show, and assures music lovers he has a few surprises up his sleeve.

The iconic singer-songwriter is visiting the Granite Belt as part of his On The Road Again tour.

With a personal connection to the region, with his close friend Kevin Carmody a Ballandean resident, Kelly said he can’t wait to be back on the Granite Belt.

The pair wrote the hit country song From Little Things Big Things Grow in the late 1990s, and both Kelly and Carmody will be performing the song together at the Stanthorpe show.

Kelly said he was looking forward to sharing both the classic belters he is famous for, and his lesser-known songs with the audience.

“I’m glad we get the chance to visit (Stanthorpe), we are so happy to be able to continue playing shows and performing in various places. We love it,” he said.

Kelly said he was grateful to be able to continue playing music and performing for live audiences.

“I think there is extra emotion from people, they don’t take (live concerts) for granted. Covid knocked us in the performing arts around, so having people be able to get together and to experience that communal feeling is great,” he said.

“Everyday we count our lucky stars we can play the next show.”

Kelly’s band, including Vika and Linda Bull, Bill McDonald, Peter Luscombe, Ash Naylor and Cameron Bruce, will be performing with him in the show.

With a phenomenal career in the industry that spans a staggering 50 years, Kelly said he was privileged to be able to use the stage and his music to bring others on a journey with him.

“I always wanted to write songs that would last. A lot of the audience started with me and come along to my shows and now the younger ones come along, too,” he said.

While in Stanthorpe, Kelly is hoping to visit the region’s wineries and explore the Girraween National Park, which he said is home to one of his favourite hiking trails.

Paul Kelly’s show is at the Stanthorpe Civic Centre on August 7. To purchase tickets, click here.
