THERE'S set to be a significant change of governance for our neighbours over the border, with the NSW seat of Lismore set to say farewell to long-sitting member Thomas George.
NSW Election Day is this Saturday, with seven candidates vying to take over from National's member Thomas George who is retiring from politics after 20 years in the seat.
Most candidates are political newbies, but Labor candidate Janelle Saffin is a veteran by comparison.
She's served on the NSW Legislative Council and in the Australian House of Representatives.
Austin Curtin will hope to regain the seat for the Nationals, who only hold a small 2.9 per cent margin.
Pre-polling is underway in Tenterfield and Liston Hall will have a voting booth too.
Long-term Liston resident Peter Bonner said it'll be sad to see Mr George depart.
"He's been very good. Sorry to lose him really.”
He said continued funding for Mt Lindesay Rd and an overhaul of the region's wooden bridges were two of the biggest issues facing a new member.
