Stanthorpe has a rich history spanning 150 years and in preparation for the momentous occasion in 2022, the Southern Downs council have launched a competition for a commemorative anniversary logo.

Stanthorpe’s 150th anniversary celebrations have begun early with Granite Belt residents encouraged to enter the logo competition and get their name in the town’s history book.

Southern Downs councillor and chair of the S150 Committee, Stephen Tancred is hopeful that the winning entry will come from within the Granite Belt community.

“I am excited to see what the creative residents of the Granite Belt will conjure up,” he said.

“After all, our people represent the heart and soul of our community and I know how passionate Granite Belt residents are about their history and how it continues to guide the town’s future.

“There is so much creative talent in the region and the S150 Committee hopes to harness local art power to create a logo that will inspire and direct our collective hearts and minds on celebrating the 150th anniversary of Stanthorpe.”

Southern Downs Mayor Vic Pennisi encourages artists to keep in mind that Southern Downs is such a great place to call home and we should never forget our rich history of the past 150 years.

“The call for a community driven logo is a significant step in the S150 planning process and I look forward to seeing entries that not only honour the 150th celebrations, but also echo the fact that the Southern Downs is a great place to live, work, play and stay,” Mayor Pennisi said.

Amateur and professional artists of all ages from across Southern Downs are invited to submit a competition entry.

The winner of the competition will walk away with bragging rights and $150 in ‘Why leave town’ shopping vouchers to spend in the heart of Stanthorpe.

Entries close on Thursday 3 June 2021 and will be judged by the S150 Committee.
