Glenisa to 'keep on keeping on'

Despite a drop in sales, Glenisa Angus' Ced Wise said they did better than they anticipated at Friday's annual bull sale in Glen Aplin.

DESPITE a drop in sales, Glenisa Angus' Ced Wise said they did better than they anticipated at Friday's annual bull sale in Glen Aplin.

Mr Wise said the ongoing drought meant many of their usual customers weren't in a position to purchase bulls.

Twenty-five of 38 lots sold to average $3820 and a top of $10,000 for Lot 14 Glenisa No.38 to Yarrawonga Santa Gertrudis Stud, of Wallumbilla.

No.38, a 22-month-old son of DSK RR Jimbob J21, showed excellent carcass traits and scanned 130sq cm EMA, 9mm rump, 6mm rib and 5.4 per cent IMF.

Mr Wise thanked the buyers for supporting their sale in such a difficult year and said they were hoping the season turned around quickly for all cattle producers.

"It was obviously a very tough sale,” he said.

"I thought our bulls were as good this year as they've ever been. I think we presented them very well.

"Nevertheless it was a tough sale. But, having said that, it was honestly better than we had expected because from Toowoomba south we're in a desperate drought and that is where the majority of our bulls go.

"We sort of sell locally, across to Casino and down to Glen Innes and that area has been selling cows for 12 months now so it's not difficult to see why we didn't sell a lot of bulls into that area.

"The top prices were sort of what we like to get for the top-end bulls. But what we missed out on is sort of the bulk buyer or the competition for the average bulls.”

Despite the outcome, Mr Wise said they would continue business as usual.

"Just keep on keeping on as if it will rain,” he said.
