The Stanthorpe community has come together this weekend to celebrate the best of its region’s produce and country traditions at the 2022 Stanthorpe Show.
Dozens of people have already hit the Showgrounds throughout Saturday to see the stacks of attractions lined up at the 2022 event, from carnival games and rides to the region’s best livestock producers competing for the show’s top honours.
This year’s Stanthorpe Show marks the 146th year of the event, and coincides with the massive 150th anniversary celebrations slated for the town throughout 2022.
Produce displays from Stanthorpe State High School and St Joseph’s School celebrated the 150th anniversary, and several exhibits throughout the main pavilion showcased decades of the Show’s history and the region’s entries in other major agricultural affairs such as the Ekka.
Southern Downs Mayor and lifelong Stanthorpe ambassador Vic Pennisi commended show organisers for putting together the 2022 event, overcoming its postponement in January and other Covid concerns.
“It’s not as big as usual, but given the circumstances, the organisers have done a fantastic job and what is here is an absolute credit to those organisers,” he said.
“This is a fairly well-represented show for the produce, cooking, and livestock divisions.
“It’s great to catch up with old friends you possibly haven’t seen since the last Show, and I was really glad when the committee said they were going to run it this year because it gives people the opportunity to reconnect with friends they might not have seen in 12 months.”
