OUR Year 5 and 6 students recently attended the GRIP Student Leadership conference in Highfields along with students from a number of Granite Belt schools.

The day was full of leadership values and ideas that students found applicable to their journey of becoming student leaders.

They were introduced to a team of motivated speakers who led them through activities to reflect upon their existing leadership strengths.

Students were then provided with opportunities to identify how they could utilise their strengths to contribute to their school, community and the culture of learning and behaviour.

Amongst all this though the students danced, played games and showed confidence up on the stage.

Students have returned to Thulimbah with many ideas of how they can contribute to an improved educational experience for all our students and especially become involved in ways to lead the school in learning and behaviour.

Thank you to Mrs Cook for accompanying students on the day and Mr Roberts from Severnlea for organising this excursion.

Our 2019 School Captains, Macy and Lucia, have reflected on how GRIP will influence their leadership in 2019.

Macy: "We learned about how to be a good leader through activities including competitions like; talking to other students and getting to know them and also writing our questions and ideas in a booklet.

"Something I wasn't quite sure about was how to build confidence but I figured out that you keep trying and trying until you get it or feel confident about it.

"GRIP Leadership Conference was so much fun.”

Lucia: "We went to learn how to be a good leader through activities including; competitions, meeting other students and doing a workbook.

"I also learnt leadership is about people not position or power.

"The best part was learning how to be a good leader, how to build confidence, making a difference to my school, making a difference in society, making a difference in a team and about my leadership pathway”.
