Cividale visit Stanthorpe
IN February Stanthorpe State High School welcomed a group of students and staff from our sister-school in Cividale, Italy, as part of our annual exchange program. A group of 11 students and two teachers enjoyed the experience of visiting our school and region, in return for our visit to their school in Italy last September.
For 10 days, the students engaged in school based activities and excursions to learn about our region and our culture. In addition to attending classes with their host buddies, the students participated in baking, manual arts, visual arts, dance and physical education as a way of learning about Australia, our secondary education system and most importantly, to improve their English skills.
Unfortunately, a visit to Girraween National Park was cancelled due to the bushfires, but excursions to Byron Bay and a sheep and cattle property near Tenterfield were memorable. In what has been a challenging time for our community weather wise, our Italian visitors leant many things about drought, water conservation and bushfires during their stay.
A big thank you must go to the host families, staff and local community who accommodated our visitors in many ways. We look forward to visiting their town again next year.
Talent Quest
FOR the last few weeks, lunchtimes have been a little more interesting with a Talent Quest being performed in the stadium. A number of students have already performed acts including singing, rapping, dancing and a contemporary saxophone performance. Some more acts will be happening into next week with a public showcase occurring on Wednesday March 27 in the Civic Centre at 6:30pm - all welcome.
Run Club starts up again.
