Beyond the Mask art exhibition inspired by challenges of COVID

Borderline artists were influenced by the challenges of COVID and inspired to look ‘Beyond The Mask’ when creating their works.

The Beyond the Mask art exhibition is on show at the Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery until June 13, where patrons can both buy and view the artwork.

The new Beyond the Mask art exhibition explores the difficulties of challenges through artwork.

Beyond the Mask showcases artwork by Borderline artists, who were influenced by the challenges of recent times.

Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery director Mary Findlay said the theme for this year was expressing what is happening in life and representing that through art.

“Our response is to enlighten after a difficult year,” she said.

“Beyond The Mask is about people taking down all the things experienced during COVID and creating an artistic piece.”

Mrs Findlay said the pandemic was a new experience for everyone and art gave creatives an avenue to showcase the many different emotions people felt throughout 2020.

“Artists are often isolated by the very nature of their work, and this was a way for everyone to come together safety and be creative,” the director said.

“The series of challenges faced last year allowed the artists to delve deeper into themselves.

“The essence of the artwork is looking ‘Beyond the Mask’.”

The biennial art exhibition showcases a range of art with work from members of the Borderline Regional Arts Association.

All the Borderline artists are from the Southern Downs and New England border regions.

Mrs Findlay said the exhibition invites audiences to celebrate the body of artwork that represents a wide variety of individual expression from ‘Beyond the Mask’.

“It is an eclectic mix that everyone would love as there is a range of works for all different art tastes,” she said.
