A ute towing a trailer has rolled over at a major intersection near Stanthorpe, with emergency services suggesting wet road conditions could be to blame.

Crews were called to the scene at the intersection of the New England Highway and Caves Road at about 7am on Friday.

Stanthorpe police Senior Constable Matt Shield said the male driver attempted a U-turn before slipping off the road in the wet weather.

The car was on a drain on the side of the road by the time fire crews arrived and the man was safely out of the car.
