NOMINATIONS are in, finalists are being whittled down and the countdown is on for the biennial business awards.
Next Saturday will offer local business heads, supporters and family a chance to come together and celebrate the last two years in business.
It has been two of the most trying years for trade in the local area, but that's exactly why the town should celebrate said Amanda Harrold from the Stanthorpe and Granite Belt Chamber of Commerce.
"We had over 40 nominations so we're really pleased that the businesses, even though it has been a hard year, have still nominated,” Mrs Harrold said.
"We're hoping to have the finalists by Friday and we'll notify them and the big night is next Saturday which we're really excited about.
"There was quite a diverse range of businesses but no surprise that biggest nominations were for tourism, accommodation and retail.
"We have entertainment lined up. We'll have fire twirlers and a live band and it's going to be a great night supporting local businesses,” she said.
At a time when businesses have been closing at an alarming rate, Mrs Harrold said it's important to reflect on the successes, not the negatives.
"I think people need to look back and realise how hard they've worked and what they've put into their businesses and not be afraid to stand up and say 'this is what I have achieved'.
"Especially at times like this, we need to stand together.
"I hope the community realise what great businesses we have here and supports them.
"If they don't there won't be businesses here to support our sporting clubs, our Stanthorpe Show, our Apple and Grape and Snowflakes.
"We really need the locals to shop locally.”
The event will be held at the International Club from 6pm with the Queensland College of Wine Tourism catering.
Member for Southern Downs James Lister will MC the evening.
"We'll have great food, great wine and great conversation.”
