Major delays are expected across Brisbane’s train services during peak hour this afternoon after a truck crashed into a rail bridge at Corinda this morning.
The incident, which occurred around 7am Monday, suspended services and caused residual delays of up to an hour after they resumed.
Services on the Ipswich and Springfield lines were impacted, with delays earlier today of up to 60 minutes in both directions. Multiple services were also cancelled.
Delays of 30 minutes are still impacting commuters.
Queensland Rail executive officer Nev Conway said the Corinda bridge at Allan Terrace will remain partially closed, operating only one line, until repairs were completed.
“These incidents cause major damage to our rail infrastructure and significant delays for our customers; they can and should be avoided,” he said.
Mr Conway said road users who damage rail infrastructure could be fined $1238 and four demerit points or, if taken to court, be forced to pay up to $12,384 in damages.
“We are pleading with drivers to know the height of their vehicles, plan their route carefully and obey the road signs and signals in place,” he said.
Rail buses will support the track closure while repairs are underway.
A Queensland Rail spokeswoman also confirmed the Roma Street signalling issue had been resolved around 2.30pm, although delays of up to 10 minutes remained across the network.
She stated Monday’s rail network issues were purely operational and were not due to the day’s planned industrial action.
