A woman has been flown to hospital after hitting a propeller in a freak boating incident on Boondooma Dam.

It's believed the woman, aged in her 50s, was the passenger in a tinnie when it struck a submerged object.

She was thrown from the vessel and struck by the boat's propeller, seriously injuring her hand.

The Sunshine Coast RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew joined emergency services on scene at 5.40pm on Thursday.

The woman was then flown to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
