Tributes have flowed for a much-loved Kinbombi truck driver who lost his battle with cancer just one day before he was due to walk his daughter down the aisle.

John Patrick Chandler will be remembered by his wife of 28 years, Darlene Chandler, and children Jesse, Rohan and Ashley, as a man who lit up the room and was selflessly dedicated to his family.

The 55-year-old was born in Brisbane on August 3, 1967, and attended high school in Murgon and resided in Kinbombi for the past 15 years.

He played football in childhood, which ignited his deep passion for the Brisbane Broncos.

John worked as a contract tordoner for 15 years before obtaining his truck licence and taking up work with Riverina stockfeeds in Murgon.

He was an avid fan of motorbikes, fishing, hunting and had a taste for an adventurous way of living.

Mrs Chandler said her husband’s biggest achievement was the happy home he worked so hard to provide for those he loved most.

“Family holidays to Fraser Island were the highlight of the year, we hadn’t even come home and were planning for next year,” she said.

“There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t have done for us, including working away week after week.

“John was the life of the party so to speak, he never got angry and that smile lit up the room.”

Mr Chandler was diagnosed with metastatic Melanoma on the brain in November.

His wife said he fought hard and said that it wasn’t going to take him.

“I guess he was wrong for the first time,” she said.

“There are 28 years of memories, too many to mention, but a lifetime of heartache for us left behind.

“John never got to walk his daughter Ashley down the aisle, which was to happen on the third of December, as he passed on the 2nd.

“He will be so sadly missed by us all, he was cheated out of life that he put so much love into.”

Mr Chandler died in hospital surrounded by friends and family.
