The mother of a 15-year-old boy who was critically injured on May 7, when an allegedly stolen car crashed out of control and at high speed on the D’Aguilar Highway near Nanango, has given an update on his fight in the Queensland Children’s Hospital.
Police have confirmed there were two 15-year-old boys and two 14-year-old boys travelling in the Kia Cerato when it rolled multiple times near the highway’s intersection with Nanango Tarong Rd in the early morning of May 7.
The teen who was critically injured was a passenger in the allegedly stolen car. No charges have as yet been laid.
His devastated mum said on Thursday her son had been woken up from his coma on Wednesday night and was showing signs of improvement.
“My son was woken up last night,” she said.
“He’s in an immense amount of pain with tubes in his sides to help him breathe.
“He has lacerations on his liver, kidneys and spleen.
“When he arrived he was in critical condition but he is doing better.
“The doctors are worried that he may have done something to his spine with eight fractures and a fractured rib.”
The car reportedly rolled multiple times before coming to rest, and miraculously the other three teenagers received only minor injuries - one an arm injury, one with neck pain - and were taken to Kingaroy Hospital in a stable condition.
Reports have since emerged that the car was travelling at 200km/h when it went out of control and had been allegedly stolen from Rocklea.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage is urged to contact PoliceLink on 131-444.
