Rugby League: Heading into round three of the junior rugby league competition this weekend the Wondai Wolves are coming to Kingaroy.

The Wondai Wolves are hoping for more players to improve their chances this season.

Wondai Wolves registrar Vickie Parry hopes they have enough players to have subs.

"We really could do with a few more numbers across the board. For all our teams, particularly junior,” Parry said.

"We've just played Nanango and Cherbourg so far.

"It became really apparent we need more players then, if we're going to stand a chance this season.”

Parry hopes the Wondai State School can help round up some more junior league players.

"So this week the Wondai State School has been running a clinic for football registration,” Parry said.

"Pretty much if the kids finish the training, register online, and then attend the final part of the clinic they receive a free football.”

Parry hopes the clinic helps encourage students to join a team.

She said their other tactic for roping in players was through their current players.

"You know, the usual task of asking players to bring along all of their friends,” Parry said.

The Wondai Wolves pre-season involved mostly training.

"We didn't have any trial matches this pre-season,” Parry said.

"But we have had quite a few of our best players picked up for the South Burnett rep side rugby.

"We've got one player in the under-14 team, three players in the under-13 team, and quite a few shadows in the under-12 team.”

Parry is looking forward to this weekend's game.

"Hopefully we'll have enough in the under-14 team to have some reserve players instead of having to bring in our under-13 and under-12 players to make up numbers like we have been so far,” Parry said.

"Look it's going to be a big weekend for footy. It's still a bit early in the season because we haven't played every team to know the calibre of what we're up against. But, we're just looking forward to wearing our team jerseys with pride.”

Parry said the weekend would help support a cause close to the footy community's hearts.

"We've got all gate proceedings at Kingaroy going to Andrew Cole's family. So we're hoping to see a few supporters.”

Andrew Cole was killed in a car accident on his way to a game last weekend.
