A pillar of the South Burnett, a beautiful person and a true treasure has been mourned and remembered by the Nanango community.
Roslyn Gregor passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025, aged 83.
Her funeral notice published by White Lady Funerals Caloundra read:
“Much loved Mother and Mother-in-law of Andrew and Lisa, Genevieve and Doug, Meredith and Paul.
“Adored Grandma of Campbell, Lucy, Flynn and Rory.
“Roslyn was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by all her family and friends.”
Roslyn was living in Caloundra at the time of her passing but spent most of her life in Nanango and was well known and loved in the community.
She dedicated decades of her life to volunteering, stepping into leadership roles and preserving Nanango’s history.
Roslyn spent 23 years as the president of the Nanango Historical Society and led the charge to save Ringsfield House, transforming it from it’s dilapidated state in 1995 to a popular multifunctional attraction.
She also played an integral part in the development of Tipperary Flat, giving new life to various historical buildings in the region, and in launching Nanago’s Big Screen film weekends, an event held annually for more than 10 years.
“When one historical building’s life ends there are no barriers in her mind to the many possibilities about what and where it can re-purposed somewhere else in Nanango,” said her nomination for the South Burnett Lifetime Achievement award in 2018.
In 2015, Roslyn was recognised for her tireless work in the community with the nature walk leading to Tipperary Flat named after her.
The Ros Gregor walking track and trail park run is a popular weekend outing for many active members of the community, with weekly running events taking place along the track.
South Burnett regional councillor Jane Erkens shared the sad announcement on her Facebook page early on Thursday, March 13, and said it was with much sadness that she let her community know about the passing of the former Nanango Shire councillor and deputy mayor.
“She devoted over 20 years of her life taking historic Ringsfield Home from a rundown old dump to the beautiful home we have today,” Mrs Erkens said.
“There are many other projects that we have to thank Ros for.
“The revamping of the Old Masonic Lodge, the walking track in town are just a few of the projects that we benefit from today.”
Condolences and messages of remembrance have poured in from people all over the South Burnett.
Nanango MP Deb Frecklington said she always valued Ros’ guidance and support in her early years as the Member for Nanango and was deeply saddened to hear of her passing.
“Ros will be remembered for her tireless dedication, compassion, and the meaningful contributions she made to our region over many years,” she said.
“Her passion for the Nanango community leaves a lasting legacy.”
Mayor Kathy Duff described Ros as a champion for the community and praised the work she did.
“Ros was a community champion, and as Cr Jane Erkens said, did an amazing amount of things for Nanango both in her role as a Councillor but also as a community champion and volunteer,” she said.
Dozens of people have posted comments of tribute to Ros on social media, with many praising her hard work, strong character and how much she loved the Nanango community.
“Ros was the epitome of leading from the front,” one commenter wrote.
“She got things done through hard work and persistence, often at her own cost in terms of energy and money.”
“Such a sad loss and a tireless worker for the Nanango region as well as an excellent lady,” another person wrote.
“What a wonderful town-proud lady,” said another.
A service will be held at Ringsfield House Historical Church in Nanango at 11am on Saturday, March 29.
