BERNARD Washington fears a vote on rezoning at next week's Western Downs council meeting could disturb his family's peaceful way of life on their rural property.

Next Wednesday the council will vote whether to change the zoning of the land around Windmill, Barkers and Aerodrome Rds, near Chinchilla, from rural and residential to "medium impact industry".

Mr Washington, who has owned his Rubern a property on the outskirts of Chinchilla for 50 years, told Chinchilla News he was concerned his family's rural way of life would be disturbed, and the zoning would be unsuitable for industrial purposes.

"Rubern is a good rural property but there's too much water for industrial use," Mr Washington said.

When contacted for comment, a Western Downs council spokeswoman said extensive community consultation had taken place between October and December  with more than 100 submission received from the public and community groups. The council will meet on Wednesday at Tara  from 9.30am to vote.
