Police say the search for missing Murgon man Jack McLennan remains scaled back, although the 27-year-old’s family claims police divers are being brought back in over the coming days.
Jack’s mother Kellie Moody said on a Facebook page post Thursday search efforts had resumed Monday following a new lead, but they were again wound back with plans to start back up again in the coming days.
“A credible witness saw jack on the 4th October around 9pm walking toward Wondai,” Ms Moody said in her post on the Help Find Jack McLennan page.
“We had more hope when we saw the SAR (search and rescue) team had a lot resources. Sadly this was only for the Monday and apparently they [will] come back next week with divers” she said.
Jack was last seen between 8-10pm on October 4, near Ficks Crossing, a fishing spot off the Bunya Highway about 6km southwest of Murgon.
He was reported missing the following day, prompting police to launch a search and rescue operation.
Since the investigation began, several items — including a hat and a pair of shoes — were found in the area where the 27-year-old is believed to have gone missing from.
They were about 7km apart.
Police said Friday the search remained scaled back and investigations continued.
“Evidence continues to be analysed and evaluated against new information that is received,” police said.
“The QPS has advised the family and will continue to provide them with any updates.
Search efforts to date include using police divers and aerial drones to scour the surrounding areas where Jack was last seen.
Ms Moody said in her post the community response to the 27 year old’s disappearance has been one of support, with a number of strangers joining the search efforts in recent weeks.
“We are touched by your comments and willingness to help,” Ms Moody said.
“It’s getting so much harder day by day.”
Detectives from the Darling Downs Criminal Investigation Branch and Homicide Investigation Unit have established Operation Whiskey Pocket, but police have said there is “nothing suspicious” about the disappearance.
