EXCLUSIVE: Youth worker claims she’s told not to report juvenile crimes

A 14-year-old boy has been charged after he allegedly attempted to rob a Murgon business in broad daylight while armed with a slingshot.

Police will allege the armed teenager entered the MacAlister Street business at 9.30am on March 29, where he demanded the attendants hand over cigarettes.

Two female employees aged 25 and 29 refused to hand over the cigarettes before hiding in a separate room, police said.

It is alleged the teenager then used the slingshot to shoot a rock at a bench before heading out empty-handed.

No one was physically injured.

Police arrested the boy within an hour.

He was charged with two counts of attempted robbery, and one count each of endangering the safe use of vehicles, carrying an exposed weapon in public, and public nuisance.

The 14-year-old is due to appear before Murgon Children’s Court at a later date.
