Child sex offenders and their crimes are some of the most horrific cases to come through South Burnett courts, with the offences leaving lasting scars on victims and the wider community.

Here are the circumstances surrounding some of the most disturbing child sex offences to take place in and around the region.

Former Wondai Scout Leader sentenced to prison for child sex abuse

A former Burnett Scouts leader was sentenced to spend at least 18 months behind bars after the serial predator pleaded guilty to historic child sex offences against a young boy.

Peter Brocklesby faced the Kingaroy District Court on a string of charges committed between 1980 and 1985, when the victim was aged between 10 and 15 as a member of the Wondai Scouts Group.

It was the second time the now-67-year-old has spent time behind bars, with the man serving one year of a three-year jail term handed down in 1993.

The Kingaroy District Court heard horrific details about the abuse, and the impact the crimes still have on the victim nearly 40 years later in November, 2019.

Peter Brocklesby pleaded guilty to three counts of indecent practice between males, two counts of unnatural offences, and one count of threat.

He was sentenced to six years’ jail with eligibility for parole on December 24, 2022.

Schoolgirl groomed by 30-year-old man

The child victim of 30-year-old Sydney Williams revealed the lasting impacts of his “grooming” behaviour, saying she still has difficulty trusting people and “feels worthless” when looking in the mirror.

Williams faced the Kingaroy District Court in November, 2021, over offending committed in March last year, when Williams sent the 14-year-old girl a photograph of two people having sex, spoke to her about masturbation and told her he wanted to kiss her.

The court heard he told her she could “talk to him about anything” but it had to stay between them or they’d both “get in trouble”.

Williams pleaded guilty to using electronic communication to procure a child under 16 and the indecent treatment of a child under 16.

He was sentenced to 18 months in jail, which was suspended for two years. He was also placed on probation for two years.

Dad puts young daughters through 10-year rape hell

A Kingaroy father was sentenced to 15 years behind bars for raping and sexually assaulting his two stepdaughters and biological daughter, with the eldest being subjected to this abuse for more than a decade.

The man in his 40s, who cannot be named for legal reasons, began abusing his then-five-year-old stepdaughter when he began a relationship with the girl’s mother and moved in with their family.

Kingaroy District Court was told the man would threaten to hurt his victim or her mother if the little girl told anyone about the offending, and made her take contraception from the age of 10.

The man’s crimes finally came to light when the victims’ mother made a medical appointment and insisted he go with her, allowing the girls to go to the police station.

He pleaded guilty to 16 child sex offences including six counts of rape, four counts of indecent treatment of a child under 12, and two counts of maintaining a sexual relationship with a child.

The man was sentenced to 15 years’ jail with an order to serve at least 80 per cent before being made eligible for parole.

‘He took part of my life’: Man guilty for indecent treatment

A woman has nightmares and walks around the house in the middle of the night to check on her children because of what happened to her when she was growing up in Blackbutt South in the 1990s.

The woman, who now lives elsewhere in Queensland, ­appeared in Kingaroy District Court as a witness and victim giving evidence against Alan Dennert on indecent treatment charges.

A jury found Dennert, 59, guilty of three counts of indecent treatment of a child and one count of indecent exposure to a child under 16 and under 12 years old.

The offences happened on unknown dates between ­December 1990 and January 1, 1995, while Dennert was in his 30s at the time.

Dennert was sentenced to 18 months‘ imprisonment to be suspended after six months for two years.

Pervert preyed on vulnerable boys, including disabled child

A 72-year-old South Burnett man has been sentenced to seven years‘ jail after pleading guilty to having a sexual relationship with a child and multiple counts of indecent treatment of a minor.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, sexually abused three victims aged between 12 and 15 at the time of the offending.

Kingaroy District Court heard the offending began between July 31, 2017 and October 1, 2018 over a 15-month period when the defendant was aged between 69 and 70 years old.

Crown prosecutor Michael Mitchells told the court all three male victims were in the care of the Department of Child Safety at the time of the offending.

The man pleaded guilty to 12 counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16 and one count of maintaining a sexual relationship with a child.

His charges included one count of maintaining a sexual relationship with a child and 12 counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16.

He will be eligible for parole in October this year.

Man jailed after ‘taking advantage’ of drunk 15-year-old

A woman told police she discovered her “extremely intoxicated” 15-year-old friend naked behind a shed with an unknown 39-year-old man.

Murgon Magistrates Court heard the victim was found pulling on a jumper to cover her “naked torso” and the man was seen “pulling his track pants from his thighs to around his waist”.

Police and paramedics were called to the address where they found the victim to be “extremely intoxicated to the point where she was unable to speak or stand”.

The man pleaded guilty to indecent treatment of a child under 16.

He was sentenced to 12 months’ jail.
