South Burnett crime wrap: Cops investigate massive Diesel theft, crime wave across Murgon area

Offenders have hit businesses and private properties in the hunt for increasingly expensive fuel, making off with 1000 litres of the liquid gold as police search for answers. Here’s what else police have dealt with in past days:

Queensland fuel prices on the rise

Thieves targeted businesses and private properties in the hunt for fuel, making off with 1000 litres of the liquid gold as police search for answers.

Offenders hit the rural property in Fairdale between June 18 and 26, taking off with a whooping 1000 litres of diesel.

A MacAlister Street fuel station was robbed of $75.15 worth of diesel about the same time, with a Ford Courier driving off from the Murgon business without paying at 7.35am on June 20.

Investigations are continuing into both matters.

Police also dealt with a range of other stealing and trespass related offences over the past few days, including the theft of two water pumps from a government facility in Coverty between May 27 and June 26.

On Saturday, a Cherbourg woman woke to a shock when an unknown person wandered through an unlocked door into her Barber Street home.

The Queensland Police Service reported the offender “yelled out to the victim and verbally abused her”.

The following day, two parked cars were targeted by thieves.

They smashed the rear left passenger window of one car with a pair of pliers and smashed the front passenger side window of the other with a rock.

The offenders stole gold coins and work tools from the centre console of the second car.

Investigations are continuing into all three matters.

Police were tasked to two incidents on June 24, starting with a 47-year-old woman who verbally abused staff at a Murgon pub.

The Cherbourg woman followed a staff member from the poker machine area to the bar area while yelling and swearing at them, before picking up various bartending utensils and threatening to throw them at staff.

She was fined $827 for public nuisance.

Just hours later, officers uncovered a hydroponic drug set up at a Lamb Street property in Murgon.

A 43-year-old Murgon woman is expected to appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on July 19, charged with producing dangerous drugs and possessing anything used in the commission of crime.
