Nearly 30 people arrested as Burnett cops close Operation Icicle and Boa

Police were forced to smash the windscreen of a vehicle to safely remove a boy on Saturday, while nearly 30 people were arrested as part of two major police operations in the South Burnett region.

Officers acted after spotting a ute towing a trailer, which was loaded with a car that was not properly secured, on the D'Aguilar Highway at Nanango.

Sitting inside the loaded vehicle was a 13-year-old child, who police pulled to safety after smashing the windscreen.

Body worn camera footage from police shows the boy attempt to get out of the car, but the sides of the trailer prevent him from opening the door.

A 75-year-old Jundah man was hit with three fines totalling $823 for driving a vehicle with an unrestrained load, not complying to the vehicles mass requirement, and driving with a person in a trailer being towed.

The intercept was conducted as part of Operation Icicle, which resulted in 20 people being charged with 33 charges.

Two Cherbourg men in their 20s were charged with a string of offences after police pulled them over on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin on Friday.

The 28-year-old driver will face Murgon Magistrates Court on August 16 charged with drug driving, while a 22-year-old found hiding in the back seat was charged with attempted robbery, stealing and entering a premises to commit indictable offence.

A whooping 14 people were charged with drug driving over four days under the special operation, which targeted dangerous road behaviours across the Darling Downs and South Burnett.

Nine people were arrested as part of Operation Boa, including a 39-year-old Cherbourg man who will face Murgon Magistrates Court on October 4 on charges including attempted arson.

The police bust dealt also with four Cherbourg teenagers on serious charges, with one 18-year-old girl alleged to have seriously assaulted a police officer and a 14-year-old found with liquor and drug utensils.

South Burnett Patrol Group Inspector Scott Stahlhut said the operations display Queensland Police Service’s commitment to keeping the community safe.

“The Queensland Police Service is dedicated to proactive policing targeting behaviours on our roads and in our community, that put innocent members of the public at risk,” Inspector Stahlhut said.

“Officers across multiple units and divisions worked collaboratively on Operation Icicle and Operation Boa, successfully putting 25 alleged offenders before the court.”
