Police have found new compelling evidence in the Jack McLennan case, the 27-year-old man who went missing from Ficks Crossing in the South Burnett on October 4, 2024.
The Acting Inspector of Queensland Police Service said on Thursday afternoon police were notified on November 17 that a wallet and debit card belonging to Jack had been found on a private property closely adjacent to the search area.
Due to the recent findings, a police coordinated search-and-rescue was initiated with State Emergency Service, which included remotely piloted aircraft systems assets, police divers, and private searchers over two days.
Unfortunately, no further items of interest were located.
Police stated that search-and-rescue efforts had been suspended at this point with the matter still under investigation by Murgon Criminal Investigation Branch.
Jack’s family have actively been searching for him since his mother spoke out against police for leaving her feeling ‘left in the dark’.
The family have also launched a GoFundMe in efforts to raise money to help in the search.
Jack was initially reported missing on October 5, and was last seen between 8-10pm on October 4, leaving the Ficks Crossing recreational grounds on foot located between Wondai and Murgon.
Search efforts included the Dive Squad, police on foot, motorbikes, police dogs, SES volunteers, Remote Piloted Aerial System (RPAS), and Queensland Remote Area Tracking personnel, before being scaled back after two weeks.
As questions about Jack’s wellbeing continue, detectives from the Darling Downs Criminal Investigation Branch and Homicide Investigation Unit have established Operation Whiskey Pocket.
On October 10, police located a pair of shoes at Ficks Crossing and a hat near McAlister and McLucas streets, both items are believed to belong to the missing man.
Jack is described as caucasian, about 185cm tall with light brown hair, brown eyes, and was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and dark shorts.
Police are urging local residents to conduct a search of their properties for any signs of Jack and are appealing to anyone who may have seen a person walking along the Bunya Highway towards Wondai on October 4 around 10.40pm to contact police immediately.
