Nanango man allegedly threatens to torch ex-partners house with her inside

A Nanango man allegedly threatened to burn down his ex-partner home with her inside, less than a week after police allege a Gold Coast woman was burned alive by her estranged husband.

In a letter left on a Nanango doorstep, police allege a man vowed to get revenge on his ex-partner and her housemates by burning their house to the ground with her “passed out” inside.

Arrested on Monday, the 29-year-old defendant currently faces six charges, including unlawful stalking, the dangerous operation of a vehicle, using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence, breaching a bail condition and two counts of contravening a domestic violence order.

No plea has been entered for any of these charges.

Instructed to apply for bail, the defendant’s lawyer, Jay Rose from Rose Gold Legal, said her client has no criminal history prior to these allegations, with the exception of a breached bail condition this year.

“This all relates to a breakdown of a relationship between him and his former partner,” Ms Rose said.

“The complainants in these matters live with his ex partner. There have been ongoing issues with his ex-partner, the complainant, her partner, and his ex-partners new partner.”

The court heard the breached bail condition relates to a series of 12 SMS messages, 118 calls and 36 voice messages allegedly threatening these individuals, as well as a letter left on their doorstep.

“The allegations are that on April 13 he followed her home,” Magistrate Andrew Sinclair said.

“On April 10 and 21 he sent a number of abusive text messages, including in particular the following statements:

“If you think I’m going to give up, think again. I’m going to have my revenge.

“It’s all just a matter of time until I find the c-nt and he can say goodbye to his nuts when I castrate him.

“You same will happen to you. You are next. He will get what’s coming to him, no matter how long it takes.”

Magistrate Sinclair also addressed a letter allegedly left at the aggrieved home on April 26.

Sections of the letter read:

“You’ll know what it’s like to lose everything when you watch it all go up in smoke, and ensure (friend of the aggrieved) never walks unaided again, as well as destroying his disgusting sex drive by crushing his testis with a vice grip, which I always carry in my boot.”

“Anything further could only be from dropping the charges and a face-to-face apology for your actions.

“The last and most important condition is the reveal of (friend of the aggrieved) whereabouts to allow my revenge to be conducted, allowing my closure.

“If you think for a second that I’m bluffing, remember the last promise that I gave you.

“The only difference is this time I’ll be positive you’re home and passed out.”

Ms Rose said her client informs her these alleged statements were in response to harassment he’d receive from these four parties.

“Obviously, the letter speaks for itself, so I can't take it much further than it was his view that he was responding to threats that had been directed his way by a gang of people referred to collectively as his ex-partner and her housemates,” she said.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Pepe Gangemi opposed bail, arguing while the defendant has very limited history “there are no conditions the court could impose that will reduce the risk of committing further offences”.

“The letter is clear in its threats,” he said.

Magistrate Sinclair said the timing of the letter was particularly disturbing, written less than a week after the horrifying death of Arundel mum-of-three Kelly Wilkinson.

“I take the defendant’s word; I don’t think he is bluffing,” he said.

“I think there is an unacceptable risk that he’s likely to carry out the threats.”

Bail was refused with the defendant remanded in custody until June 17 for mention.
