A mother who was already on parole has been thrown back behind bars after she carried out a violent attack on another woman over a custody dispute.
The 27-year-old, who cannot be named to protect the identity of her child, punched her former partner’s sister almost a dozen times in a frantic attack.
The court was told the woman’s daughter had been in the victim’s care for about two years.
The woman began yelling at the victim as she sat in her car in Murgon in September, telling her , “I’m going to get my daughter back from you”.
Murgon Magistrates Court heard the woman threw more than 10 punches at the other woman, with bystanders forced to intervene.
Prosecutor Barry Stevens said the 27-year-old told police tensions arose after the other woman refused to let her see her daughter, but conceded she “should have walked away”.
Magistrate Andrew Sinclair noted the mother had six pages of criminal history, including multiple convictions for violence.
The woman pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm and was sentenced to nine months’ jail, with immediate parole eligibility.
