A 45-year-old landscaper who continued to supply drugs after being convicted of trafficking meth found himself back in court after a client died from an overdose.

Michael Keith Andersen pleaded guilty in Kingaroy District Court in February 2025 to three deals he made in July 2024 involving small amounts of meth and marijuana, to the same drug-addicted woman.

The published sentencing remarks from that court appearance reveal the deals included selling the woman 0.2g of meth for $80, giving her 0.1g of the drug, and also supplying her with “small amounts” of marijuana.

Judge Glen Cash said Andersen’s crimes “probably would have gone undetected but for the tragic circumstance that this woman overdosed and died some weeks later”.

“There is, of course, no direct connection between your offences and her death, but it highlights the pernicious nature of this drug,” Judge Cash said.

Andersen was not charged with any wrongdoing over the woman’s death.

The court heard Andersen had a “long” criminal history which included “less serious” drug and nuisance offences, and one entry in 2020 for trafficking meth.

He was jailed for three years and released immediately on parole for that offence.

Court heard the 45-year-old had himself spiralled into drug abuse after injuring himself at work.

Judge Cash said the sentence “seems to have done little to deter you from using and selling this drug”.

“It is a horrific drug, Mr Andersen, particularly in rural communities like this where it happens that the results of the abuse of the drug can be things like the tragic death of this woman,” he said.

Anderson was convicted of three counts of supplying drugs, and sentenced to one year’s jail with release on parole after he served four months.
