The extensive thieving history of a young mother was revealed before the Murgon Magistrates Court on Tuesday, after she stole ID and a phone from a variety store employee, and cash for booze and lollies.

Meesha Daisy Ruth Blair, 21, pleaded guilty to four counts of stealing.

Police prosecutor Barry Stevens said that on March 11, 2023 Blair entered and stole from Wayne’s World in Murgon, on three occasions.

“The victim works at Wayne’s World; she’s the owner of a galaxy mobile phone, a phone charger, a driver’s licence and a bank card that were stolen,” Sergeant Stevens said.

“An hour later the defendant returned to the store and stole $580 in cash.

“CCTV footage showed the defendant stealing the items. The victim then went across the road to the Australian Hotel to let Blair know the police were on their way,” he said.

The court heard Blair ran from the pub, having already spent $200 of the stolen cash there.

She was located by police at her Cherbourg address on March 13.

Sgt Stevens said CCTV footage from IGA Murgon revealed Blair stealing food on May 7, 2023.

“The footage shows her entering and selecting a container of fairy floss before she realises it is too big to hide under her jumper, so she discards the container,” he said.

Blair was ordered to pay $600 in restitution to Wayne’s World.

“She walked out of the store and stole a number of unknown confectionary items.”

Blair had been sentenced for similar crimes in recent times, the court was told.

“She was determined to do this and the fact she’d spent the money in a short time shows she had very little insight,” Sgt Stevens said.

Defence lawyer Babu Singh said Blair had two children and lived with her mother in Cherbourg, after enduring a shattered and unpleasant upbringing.

“She has drug and alcohol problems and needs help,” Mr Singh said.

“She will pay restitution to Wayne’s World and probation should be considered so she can seek some assistance,” he said.

Magistrate Andrew Sinclair said these were serious offences that were repeated behavioural patterns.

“It’s a horrible thing for the community and it adds to the costs everyone has to pay for their items,” Mr Sinclair said.

“You need to stop offending, it’s quite ludicrous that someone your age has a two page criminal history.

“Set your life up so you don’t spend the rest of it in prison,” he said.

Mr Sinclair placed Blair on 18 months probation on the condition she takes part in assistance and counselling programs.

She was ordered to pay $600 in restitution to Wayne’s World.

Convictions were recorded.
