Matthew John Evans charged with bomb hoax threats at Qld, NSW courthouses

A South Burnett man charged with sending bomb threats to courthouses in Stanthorpe, Loganlea and NSW went on a strange rant, accusing a magistrate of treason and declaring he was under the jurisdiction of a long-dead monarch.

A South Burnett man facing a string of charges related to alleged bomb hoaxes at Queensland and New South Wales courthouse, went on a bizarre rant while in court, accusing a magistrate of treason and declaring he’s under the jurisdiction of King George V.

Matthew John Evans appeared in Kingaroy Magistrates Court facing a total of 43 charges, including using carriage service for a hoax threat, three counts of bomb hoax, two counts of producing dangerous drugs, two counts of possessing dangerous drugs and dangerous driving.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Lisa Manns told News Corp it is alleged the 40-year-old called the Stanthorpe courthouse on September 3 and allegedly told a staff member “the courthouse was committing treason” and “there was a bomb in the building”.

The building was evacuated and a police investigation team searched the courthouse for explosives.

Sergeant Mann said Mr Evans was charged while in Runnymede for another alleged bomb hoax on November 4.

It will be alleged he this time used the live chat function of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia in Parramatta, NSW, to make a similar threat.

Appearing via video from Maryborough Correctional Centre, Evans told Magistrate Andrew Sinclair he “does not have jurisdiction” over him since he is an “imperial crown subject” whose grandfather swore an oath to King George V, who passed away in 1936.

He told the magistrate he would like “all matters dismissed against his estate” and that if he complies he “won’t sue for damages for fraud, treachery and treason”.

When questioned by Mr Sinclair on whether he believes he could be tried by any court for a criminal offence, Mr Evans replied with the International Court of Justice at The Hague.

The Runnymede man has not entered a plea to any charge and has so far declined legal help.

He is also charged with producing drugs, with police alleging they uncovered 1235 marijuana plants at a Runnymede property.

Mr Evans faces three failure to appear charges, however he claims the signature on his bail application does not belong to him.

The most serious charges related to the alleged bomb hoaxes will need to go before the Warwick, Beenleigh and Kingaroy Magistrates Courts.

Mr Evans is due to appear in Beenleigh on February 16, Warwick on February 9, and Kingaroy on March 10.
