Lloyd Joseph Saltner jailed for child sexual offences

An online predator has been jailed for multiple child sexual offences after meeting a 14-year-old girl online, having sex with her and filming her during an intimate act.

The victim child reported their relationship to the police after the video he took of her was circulated on social media, which resulted in her being harassed.

A 25-year-old Cherbourg man has been jailed for having sex with a teenage girl and filming her while she performed oral sex on him.

Lloyd Joseph Saltner pleaded guilty to three counts of engaging in penile intercourse with a child under 16, one count of procuring to commit indecent treatment of a child under 16 and one count of indecent treatment of a child under 16 (take video recording).

The court heard Saltner met the girl, who was aged between 14 and 15 at the time of the offences, online and told her he was 17.

It wasn’t until they met up for the first time he confessed his real age, which was 22-years-old at the time.

Over about 18 months, between May 2022 and December 2023, Saltner met up with the girl a number of times and they engaged in sexual acts.

On three occasions they had sex and on one occasion he filmed her while she performed oral sex on him at his home, the court was told.

The victim child reported their relationship to the police in early 2024 after the video he took of her was circulated on social media, which resulted in her being harassed.

The court heard when the police originally questioned the defendant, he denied talking to the young girl and said he had never met her.

Crown prosecutor Sarah McCray said while the defendant did have a criminal history and domestic violence offending, he had no history of similar offences to those he was facing in court that day.

Barrister Tristan Carlos said Saltner came from a good home and had the support of his family.

His criminal history started at the age of 20, after the deaths of several people close to him in a short period of time which led him to start drinking heavily.

“He tells me that was a very difficult year for him and he experienced significant grief in a very concentrated way,” Mr Carlos said.

The court heard Saltner had expressed the desire to stop drinking alcohol and had made a concerted effort to achieve that goal.

Mr Carlos said Saltner has previously played A-grade rugby league for the Cherbourg Hornets and Murgon Mustangs, and was hoping to return to playing again in the future.

Judge Vicki Loury said if he was able to stop drinking, he had the potential to be someone his community could be proud of.

“You are still a very young man, and if you can deal with your alcohol abuse, you can return to being a productive member of society and someone that the community, particularly those who support the Cherbourg Hornets, can be proud of,” she said.

Saltner had been in custody on unrelated charges for 23 days, which was taken into consideration by the judge when sentencing.

Judge Loury sentenced him to 18 months in prison, suspended after having served four months.
