Kingaroy police bust five alleged drug drivers in ‘disappointing’ weekend

“Last week we had a number of fatal crashes and that doesn’t even stop people drug driving. They’re putting other people at risk and themselves.” Police issue stern warning after string of alleged offenders nabbed on the region’s roads.

Kingaroy Senior Sergeant David Tierney said it was “disappointing” to bust five people allegedly drug driving on local roads over the weekend, despite a spate of fatal crashes in and around the region.

“I'd like to say it's surprising, but it’s not. It’s just disappointing,” Sergeant Tierney said.

“Last week we had a number of fatal crashes and that doesn't even stop people drug driving. They’re putting other people at risk and themselves.

“Police couldn't get out of Kingaroy because they kept coming across them, and we would have found more if we had more officers.”

On Friday alone, police will allege they busted three drug drivers on Kingaroy roads.

A man returned a positive roadside drug test after he was pulled over while driving on Alford street at 10.15am.

Police said a raid at the 36-year-old’s property at 8pm the same day also uncovered a small amount of amphetamine and marijuana, as well as drug utensils.

He has been ordered to appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on August 16, charged with drug driving, and possessing dangerous drugs and drug utensils.

Police allege a 48-year-old Kingaroy man was drug driving on Youngman Street at 11.10am Friday, and a few hours later, a 45-year-old Wondai woman was charged with drug driving on the same street.

A 38-year-old Moorland man driving on Tarong Drive about 4pm Saturday was charged after police found amphetamines and drug utensils.

All three are due to appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on August 16.

Police also charged a woman in the passenger seat of the last vehicle after she allegedly provided a fake name.

She’s due to appear before a magistrate on August 19 charged with contravening a police requirement and failing to safely dispose of a used syringe.

Police busted a final alleged drug driver on Sunday afternoon, after pulling over a 21-year-old Kingaroy man on Youngman Street.

He returned a positive sample to a roadside drug test and is also due to appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on August 16.
