“The defendant was in the driver’s seat … she was moving erratically, rocking her upper body back and forth, covering her face with her hand, looking across to the passenger side of the front seat,” Sergeant Gangemi said.

“When questioned why she was parked in this manner she began moving her head erratically, she began crying.”

She was then arrested, and police found 1-2g of cannabis in her pocket, and drug utensils in her car.

The court heard that a month prior to her arrest, on October 7, Lorkin was visiting a friend at the Maryborough Correctional Facility when police stopped her and searched her car, where they found a bag with 0.75g of cannabis and four cannabis seeds, which Lorkin claimed were hers for pain relief.

A knife with a 10cm blade was also found in the vehicle.

“She said she had no intention of removing it during her visit and that it had sentimental value,” Sgt Gangemi said.

The court heard Lorkin has had “a number of probation orders” in the past.

Magistrate Andrew Sinclair said the prison offence was the “less serious” of the charges but said the blood test from the drug driving charge showed she had “quite a cocktail” in her system.

The court heard Lorkin had already had her licence suspended “for quite a while” and was currently on probation.

Mr Sinclair disqualified her from driving for a further six months and was put on probation for 12 months.

Convictions were recorded.
