A man charged with committing more than 50 offences across the South Burnett, North Burnett and Gympie regions, including threatening a police officer and an elderly man with a shovel, will await his next court appearance behind bars.
Isiaih Colonel, 21, was taken into custody at an address in Cherbourg on Thursday, August 5, after he was found hiding in a cupboard.
Between July and August, Colonel allegedly broke into multiple homes and businesses across the South Burnett, as well as Tiaro, Kilkivan, Woolooga, Gympie, Ban Ban Springs and Gayndah.
Police will also allege the man targeted vulnerable victims living alone, breaking into their homes before stealing vehicles which were then used in further offences.
Colonel allegedly threatened a 90-year-old man with a shovel during an armed robbery of a Woolooga business last month, before making off with a quantity of cash.
It is further alleged on the same day he ran at a police officer with a shovel, forcing the officer to take evasive action to avoid injury.
The Cherbourg man has been charged with a total of 54 offences, including armed robbery, dangerous operation of a vehicle and serious assault police, as well as multiple counts of stealing, burglary, enter premises with intent and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
Detective Acting Inspector Paul McCusker of Darling Downs Crime and Support Services said the officers remained committed throughout the investigation to achieving an outcome for all victims involved.
“This is a great result for our local communities and sends a strong message that crime will not be tolerated,” he said.
Colonel’s matter was mentioned in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on Thursday but he did not apply for bail.
He is due to front court again on August 28.
