A bitter family feud has landed a South Burnett woman in court after accusations of long-held grudges and assaults escalating into conflict at a social outing.

Irene Amanda Jacobs was invited by her brother to a house party in Barber St, Cherbourg on April 17, but the initially fun evening took only a few hours to start spiralling out of control.

Murgon Magistrates Court heard police were then called to the home at about 3.20am after reports of a disturbance.

Police prosecutor Sean Franklin said officers arrived to find Jacobs at the top of the stairs at the property, with a witness saying the woman had been swearing for the past two hours and refused to leave when asked to do so.

He said Jacobs then left the property and went to another house, but continued to yell and cause a disturbance before she was eventually arrested.

Defence lawyer Mark Oliver told the court the 32-year-old had previously been assaulted by her older sister, with the incident earning the sibling time behind bars.

Mr Oliver said this caused a feud within the family that escalated into the situation at the party.

“The younger sister is the alleged complainant, I’m instructed, and she holds a grudge against my client,” he said.

“There was a party, everyone gets loud and swears out there, and her sister decided that she would make a complaint against my client.”

Jacobs pleaded guilty to one count of public nuisance.

She was fined $600.
