Father of 4 threatens to hit cancer-stricken partner with shovel, shoves her

A serial domestic violence offender who threatened to hit the mother of his children with a shovel while she was undergoing demanding cancer treatments, has walked free from court. Full details:

A South Burnett man unleashed a vicious attack on his cancer-stricken partner, pushing her where she had a medical device inserted under her skin, and threatening her with a shovel.

The 40-year-old serial abuser exploded into a rage after walking in on a conversation between the woman and one of their children, accusing his partner of “badmouthing” him.

He shoved the woman on the right side of her body where she’d had a port-a-cath installed, which was implanted to give doctors easy access to veins as she underwent treatment for cancer.

Police prosecutor Lisa Manns told Murgon Magistrates Court the victim followed the man as he stormed out of the house toward the carport, where he pointed to a nearby shovel and said, “Walk in here and I’ll put this shovel over your head.”

Lawyer Babu Singh said his client, who has four children with the victim, never intended to hit her with the shovel and just wanted to “get away”.

The man pleaded guilty to breaching a domestic violence order.

He was sentenced to nine months’ jail, but was released on immediate parole.

Magistrate Andrew Sinclair noted he’d already sentenced the 40-year-old to jail several times in the past for domestic violence.
