A South Burnett man’s bad mood landed him before court after whacking mum’s car window with a bottle of tequila.

Standing before Murgon Magistrates Court, Allan James Bond pleaded guilty to four charges, including wilfully damaging a car window, wilfully damaging police property, obstructing police, and failing to take reasonable care and precautions in respect of syringe or needle.

According to police prosecutor Sergeant Pepe Gangemi, at 5pm on July 23 last year police were called to a Webster Street address in Murgon after Bond smashed the driver’s side window of a Holden Commodore.

“The victim was the defendant’s mother,” Sergeant Gangemi said.

“She said he‘d been in a bad mood all day. He hit it with a tequila bottle.”

Upon arrest, police also located a hypodermic syringe which the defendant had failed to dispose of correctly.

The wilful damage of police property occurred in the exercise yard of the Murgon Watch House.

“He scratched the paint off the door frame with a house key. He said he was bored,” Sergeant Gangemi said.

The obstruct dates back to April 20 last year, when Bond was detained by police.

“He kept walking away. He was asked to stay where he was,” the sergeant said.

“He then began to run and try to hide.”

Bond was represented by Bonnie Djordjevic.

Ms Djordjevic said these charges predate her client‘s most recent sentence, where he was dealt with for a separate charge in Cairns, submitting the sentence would have been the same if these additional charges had been included.

She also said her client previously struggled with substance abuse, however he has now been sober for nine months, which is a huge achievement for him.

For all charges, Bond was convicted and not further punished.

Agreeing with Ms Djordjevic, Magistrate Andrew Sinclair said these additional four charges would not have impacted Bond’s August sentence.

“You do have a long history and you must have done very well indeed to stay in rehab,” Magistrate Sinclair said.

“If I had sentenced you on the 13th of August last year, and these were in front of me, I wouldn‘t have given you a different sentence.”

Convictions were recorded.
