Detectives charge 57 after massive South Burnett drug crackdown

A Burnett grandmother busted again with drugs in her caravan and a man whose marijuana habit drew concerns about the price of medicine from a magistrate, are just two of the South Burnett residents sentenced for drug offences this week.

Peta Marie Stimpson was at her Glan Devon property on March 5 when police executed a late-night search warrant.

The 45-year-old grandmother and carer was found to have marijuana and several pipes and grinders in her caravan, with lawyer Leanne McIntosh telling the court she had returned to the drug despite being prescribed medication by her GP.

She pleaded guilty to possessing dangerous drugs and drug utensils.

Stimpson was fined $500.

Sonny Alan Stevens made the long journey from northern New South Wales to face court, after he was found with ice and needles in his car at Nanango.

Police intercepted Stevens on January 15, and found two clip seal bags of ice, and used syringes.

The 43-year-old furniture remover, who has since moved to NSW, pleaded guilty to possessing a dangerous drug and failing to disposed of a syringe.

He was fined $750.

Brett Allan Horn was busted with marijuana when police came knocking at his Nanango address on February 28.

During a raid, officers found weed, a bong, grinder, and set of scales.

Horn, who made full admissions to police, told the court he received a prescription for medicinal marijuana just days later.

Magistrate Andrew Sinclair question Horn on how much the prescription cost him.

“I don’t understand why medicinal cannabis costs so much when anyone can grow it,” Mr Sinclair said.

Horn was fined $250 and no conviction was recorded.

Jeremy Roberts also faced court after police attended his home and discovered he was growing marijuana.

He pleaded guilty in Nanango Magistrates Court to producing and possessing a dangerous drug, and possessing drug utensils.

The 34-year-old was fined $500.

Disability pensioner Anthony John Perry also faced the magistrate, after being found with marijuana and seeds.

Police executed a search warrant at his property on December 16, finding a vial containing 10 grams of marijuana and a bowl containing marijuana seeds.

The pensioner told the court the seeds were six years old and he had forgotten he even owned them.

He was fined $500.
