Police are calling on the public to help track down the people who carried out two break-ins in Wondai late Monday night that involved the theft of a car and attempted theft of another car in a dramatic series of events.

The first incident happened between 8pm on October 8 and 2am on October 9, when a Kent Street home was broken into.

Police allege that after rummaging through the house, thieves stole a set of keys and white 2013 Toyota Corolla that had been parked in the garage, with Queensland registration plates 821KO9.

In a daring twist, the offenders returned a short time later to the same home and tried to steal another vehicle, but fled the scene when they were unsuccessful.

Just hours later, the crime spree continued at a South Street home, police say.

Between 1.30am and 2am on October 9, the intruders broke into a house, searched it and stole the car keys they found.

They were interrupted when the resident caught them in the act, chasing them off through the garage, which they had left open after their initial entry.

The thieves then used the stolen keys to start a car parked in the driveway and managed to get away.

Fortunately, that vehicle has since been recovered.

With the stolen Corolla still at large, police are urging anyone with information about the break-ins or the whereabouts of the vehicle to come forward immediately.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Queensland Police.
