SOUTH Burnett Regional Council mayor Keith Campbell has given full-throttle support for Triple R Motorsport's plans to build a race complex in our region.
He said the project would be a good tourism attraction that gave residents a new place to have fun.
"I believe it would be a fantastic facility for the region in that it would draw participants and spectators from a wide range of locations within south east Queensland and beyond," Cr Campbell said.
"This type of motorsport is very, very popular with a huge range of people."
The council is working with the team from Triple R Motorsport in their efforts to find a suitable block of land to build the race way.
But Cr Campbell said it was not an easy task.
"This sport is quite noisy and the matter of locating it near a built-up area is one of the factors in consideration," he said.
"The South Burnett is a relatively closely populated, even in the regions far from the town have a residential block near them."
He is keen to see the project advance.
"It has a heck of a lot going for it," he said.
"I was told the Kingaroy Speedway had 8000 people for its event over the Australia Day Weekend, that is a huge audience and there is no doubt the audience interested in that sport is quite intense."
