Improving safety for club riders

The South Burnett Motor Cycle Club has received government funding to ensure the safety of their riders.

THE South Burnett Motorcycle Club has received government funding to ensure the safety of its riders.

The club received $33,000 from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund and is looking to purchase a tractor.

Club president Brent Perrett said he was ecstatic.

"It's really great news,” Mr Perrett said.

"A tractor can be used for prepping the track.

"You've got to rip it up before riding.”

The club will also use the tractor for slashing and general up-keep.

"We really need the tractor,” Mr Perrett said.

"We're going to be using it weekly.

"Our current tractor is too small and old.

"It keeps breaking.”

It is vital the track is prepared before rides.

"If we don't prep the track properly you run into all sorts of problems,” Mr Perrett said.

"I've got two sons who are seven and four in the club.

"I would never want them riding on an un-prepped track.

"It's not worth the risk of an accident.”

Motorcycle riders' safety is essential to the club and the committee has forked out big money to have contractors prepare the track.

"We are so stoked about this. When we took over we had nothing,” Mr Perrett said.

"No equipment, no money.

"It means we won't have to keep paying for contractors we can't afford.”

The club plans to purchase the new tractor locally.

"We want to use this opportunity to keep the money and business local.

"We think that is so important,” Mr Perrett said.
