A primary school-aged boy was airlifted to hospital on Saturday night after a bull-riding accident at the Tanduringie State School Bull Ride event.

An RACQ Lifeflight spokesman said it was believed the child had been riding the animal when it bucked him off, then turned and stood on his leg.

The boy was not a student at Tanduringie State School.

Queensland Ambulance Service initially provided treatment at the scene, at Kingaroy Cooyar Rd in Maidenwell.

The event had several bull ride competition categories from ages 7 to 12 up to adults.

A QAS spokesman said they arrived on scene first and treated the boy for a broken femur.

“He was then transported a short distance to a local school, where the rescue chopper landed and took him to Toowoomba Hospital,” a Lifeflight spokesman said.

He said the boy was flown, with his mother, in a stable condition to hospital for further treatment.

The Burnett community took to social media with well wishes for the boy.

“Hope you are doing okay cowboy,” Tianna Maree said.

Another posted, “Absolute legend getting on the back of one, hope he makes a quick recovery”.

A hospital spokesman said the boy had been discharged.

The school declined to comment.
