How to become a RSPCA volunteer

IF YOU love animals and are wanting to volunteer for a great cause; Kingaroy RSPCA is looking for you.
The Kingaroy RSPCA shelter is having their first volunteer induction of the year on Tuesday, January 22, starting at 11am.
Volunteer co-ordinator Wendy Stratford said she was excited to meet the first round of potential volunteers for the new year.
"We're looking for people who are wanting to get involved. There's no need to worry about not having any animal experience. As long as you're enthusiastic there will plenty of opportunities for you to learn while on the job,” she said.
"Be warned, a lot of it will be cleaning. Which can be hard work, so be prepared for that.
"Mostly we are trying to find volunteers for Mondays, Saturdays, and Sundays.”
Ms Stratford described the role as sometimes being physically demanding and emotionally draining.
However, it is worth it if you are looking to make a positive difference in an unwanted animals life.
Ms Stratford said the volunteer position would include:
- Daily cleaning of the pens
- Making sure the animals always have food, water, clean bedding, and toys
- Walking the animals around the shelter campus
- Playing and spending time with the animals
- Serving customers
- Bathing the animals
- And, general laundry duties (usually involving soiled bedding).
The Kingaroy shelter is looking for regular volunteers who can commit to at least one shift per week for a minimum of three months.
This is to give the animals a sense of consistency while living at the shelter.

"Since the induction is tomorrow feel free to skip the online application. As long as you give us a call to let us know you'll be rocking up tomorrow it's all good. We can't wait to meet everyone,” Ms Stratford said.
