THE RSPCA special weekend was a success with Hei Hei the rooster finding a new family; and children to play with.

RSPCA Queensland spokesman Michael Beatty said 1059 animals were adopted from QLD shelters.

"It's beyond our wildest expectations," Michael Beatty said.

Kingaroy RSPCA was packed every day of the $29 special.

Over 70% of the animals at the Kingaroy shelter were adopted.

Many families were looking for dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens.

Thankfully the roosters were not overlooked as being family pets.

Roosters Hei Hei and Rodney both found their forever homes.

Hei Hei is a friendly and cuddly rooster who gets on well with young children. Making him perfect for his new family.

Hei Hei was brought to the shelter under tragic circumstances.

His best friend passed away.

Hei Hei and his young friend were inseparable.

The late young boys family struggled. Hei Hei was a constant reminder of his friend.

Regina Birchley was touched by his story and said it made his adoption even more special.

"I'm a teacher and I teach really young children, so this really means a lot to me....I can't wait for him to become a part of the family,” Regina Birchley said.
