Friends of popular Goomeri mechanic Owen Alford are fundraising to help the 37-year-old’s family following his death in a shocking South Burnett crash in October.
The creator of the GoFundMe campaign, Dakota Nunan, said money raised would help cover the family’s costs in the wake of the shocking tragedy, which happened near Murgon.
“All donations will be passed on to Owens Father and son (Cooper) to help with funeral costs and anything else needed to support Owen’s son in this terrible time,” Mr Nunan said.
“If you can lend a hand and donate it would be very much appreciated.”
The campaign has so far raised more than $1400 in the three days since its launch.
Mr Alford, the owner of Wide Bay Diesel at Goomeri, was killed in a two-vehicle crash on a single lane stretch of Bicks Rd at Silverleaf on the morning of Sunday, October 20 when his Toyota Hilux tray back and a Nissan Navara dual cab ute collided on the crest of the road.
Mr Alford tragically died at the scene.
A 48-year-old woman, who was trapped in her Nissan, was later freed and flown to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
A memorial service and celebration of Mr Alford’s life is being held on Saturday, November 9 at his Cinnabar property on old Boonara Rd from 11am.
Mr Aflord’s shock death sparked an outpouring of grief across the Gympie and South Burnett communities.
Family members, friends, and customers paid extensive tribute to the former Caloundra High School graduate described by one friend as “a beautiful soul, a great dad, and a wonderful friend”.
