Fire crews rushed out after a blaze broke out at a major Queensland power station in the South Burnett.
Eight fire crews arrived at just after 1.30pm on Thursday to battle a grass fire that broke out on the industrial estate of Tarong Power Station, 18 km south of Nanango.
By 4pm the fire was downgraded and two fire crews remained on scene to monitor the fire as workers from the station used heavy machinery to build a fire break, a Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokesperson said.
The fire posed no threat to properties and it was later extinguished, they said.
This wasn't the first time firefighters have been called to the industrial estate of Tarong Power Station.
In October 2021, firefighters were called to a fire at the power station after a coal bunker was engulfed in flames.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency spokeswoman said the fire started on a conveyor belt, which transferred to the coal.
Seven rural and urban crews worked alongside Tarong’s emergency management team and were able to extinguish the fire.
Police and paramedics were also called to the scene.
A Stanwell spokesman said the fire occurred inside one of the coal feeders at Stanwell’s Tarong power stations and was immediately extinguished by operations staff.
On October 30, 2019, Fire and Emergency Service crews were called to the power station after a fire was reported at 8.55am.
A QFES spokesman said the fire was caused by 40 tonne of coal self-combusting which was contained to a coal bunker.
The fire was eventually contained and no injuries were reported.
