Courtney Sippel scores trophy at Australian Cricket Awards
Murgon’s Courtney Sippel was named Betty Wilson Young Cricketer at the Australian Cricket Awards, shining a light on the region while inspiring young Burnett athletes.

Courtney Sippel has made the South Burnett community proud since her national cricket debut in 2020 in the Women’s Big Bash League and continues to inspire young sportswomen in the region.
Rural young cricket star’s road to national glory
On Tuesday she was named the Betty Wilson Young Cricketer at the Australian Cricket Awards.
A Cricket Australia spokesman said: “Sippel has been steadily growing into one a key new-ball threat in the Heat and Queensland Fire attacks.

“She has caught the eye of national selectors and is part of the Queensland talent factory, among a host of rising stars from the northern state.”
It has been a fantastic season for the 21-year-old from Murgon, who is one of the leading wicket-takers in the Women’s National Cricket League, while playing strong in the Women’s Big Bash League campaign where she claimed 12 wickets.
South Burnett Cricket manager Dan O’Connor congratulated Courtney on her the award.
“Courtney began her cricket journey in our region she in a real inspiration to all our junior players,” Mr O’Connor said.
“She is a great role model for our growing number of junior female cricketers.
“We look forward to following Courtney‘s cricket career over the coming years,” he said.
National junior cricket gold medallist Isabella Eisenmenger said Courtney inspired her.
“I’m really happy for her, my dad has talked about Courtney ever since I started playing cricket and she has always been an inspiration to me,” she said.
“Looking at her accomplishments, makes me feel even more determined to accomplish great things in cricket,” she said.
